The Rivers State Police Command has taken a man, identified as Michael, into custody for allegedly stabbing his friend, Uchenna, to death following a dispute over a missing mobile phone.
The tragic incident occurred last Wednesday on Egede Street in the Mile 2 area of Diobu, Port Harcourt.
According to a source, Uchenna had visited Michael at his residence, as the two had maintained a long-standing friendship. However, during the visit, Michael realized his phone was missing and began searching for it frantically.
The source explained, “So Michael accused Uchenna of stealing his handset, but Uchenna denied the accusation, and a heated argument ensued.”
As tensions escalated, Michael allegedly grabbed a jackknife and stabbed Uchenna in the stomach.
Despite efforts to save him, Uchenna was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. Meanwhile, Michael was later apprehended by the police.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said: “Yes, I can confirm the incident. The suspect has been arrested and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for detailed investigation.
