About 20 persons were reported dead at Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state as an unidentified truck loaded with cements lost control and ploughed into residential area.
The incident which occurred at about 2pm on Friday, along police area, command claimed the lives of the driver, two police officers, two children, old and nursing mothers and other yet to be identified persons, according to a viral video.
An eyewitness, Mr Sunday Alor, alleged that the truck had brake failure before the police area command and diverted to a market and family houses along the road, killing residents and traders at their homes.
However, the Anambra State Police Command and State command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were yet to respond on Blueprint Inquiry with regards to the probable cause and number of victims of the incident.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, Margaret Onabe, who later confirmed the incident to The Punch Saturday, said the crash was recorded late on Friday while promising to reach out to the FRSC personnel on the ground for more details.
