The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has asked President Bola Tinubu to re-evaluate the nation’s security framework following a fresh wave of attacks in the North-East and North-Central regions. While acknowledging the President’s ongoing efforts, the governors stressed the need for a more coordinated and robust approach to tackling insecurity.

At a joint meeting with the Northern Traditional Rulers Council held in Kaduna on Saturday, the forum expressed alarm over the re-emergence of Boko Haram activity and deadly violence in several states, calling for improved collaboration between all levels of government and security agencies.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who chairs the NSGF, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the urgency of the moment.

He said, “These mindless acts of violence against innocent citizens remind us of the urgent need to redouble our security efforts and ensure that adequate security measures are vigorously implemented for the safety of our people.“While we commend Mr. President for his sustained commitment to Nigeria’s security, we must acknowledge the recent setbacks in our efforts to combat insecurity and other social vices.“The resurgence of Boko Haram activities in some parts of the North-East and the outbreak of violent killings in the North-Central call for immediate review of strategies and greater synergy between federal, state and local security architectures.”

The forum extended sympathies to those affected in Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, and Yobe States, reiterating the region’s collective grief and resolve.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also addressed attendees, highlighting the symbolic importance of the meeting.

He stated, “Despite our diversity, the two bodies have found a way of forging consensus on critical issues and marching forward as united platforms. This approach has solidified Northern unity and garnered national respect for the Forum and Council. We must continue in this spirit.”

The event brought together governors from states including Zamfara, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Yobe, Katsina, Jigawa, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, and Kogi. Also present were traditional leaders such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Zazzau, and Etsu Nupe.
A formal communique is expected at the conclusion of the meeting
