Kwankwaso

Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself from a widely circulated statement attributed to him concerning his purported rejection of a return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other related political issues.

In a post on his verified social media account on Saturday, Kwankwaso described the statement as false and misleading.

He stated:”My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments.”I wish to categorically state such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and I will continue to do so for the time being.”I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources. – RMK.”

PlatinumPost reports that the clarification came after a separate statement, reportedly issued by one Ibrahim Rabiu and attributed to Kwankwaso, surfaced online.

The statement claimed that President Bola Tinubu had personally appealed to the NNPP chieftain to return to the APC—a request he allegedly turned down.

The purported statement further alleged that Kwankwaso is currently engaged in discussions with other key political figures to form a coalition aimed at challenging the APC in the 2027 general election.

The earlier statement credited to Kwankwaso read in part:
“1. Fellow Nigerians, I come before you today to address certain political developments that have stirred national attention, particularly regarding my interactions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“2. I wish to state clearly and unequivocally that President Tinubu personally reached out to me on multiple occasions, urging me to return to the APC fold.
.”3. He called me directly and made several overtures, both in private and through mutual contacts, in a bid to lure me back to a party that I once helped build but ultimately had to leave due to its departure from principle and justice.

“4. During one of our conversations, President Tinubu assured me that all conditions I may have for returning would be met without hesitation. He said, and I quote, ‘All terms will be fulfilled; all conditions will be like pupils in your hands.’

“5. Despite the flattering promises, I made it crystal clear to him that I would rather quit politics entirely than return to the APC, a party that has inflicted immense hardship on Nigerians.

“6. I am a man of conviction, and I do not take political decisions lightly. My refusal to rejoin APC is rooted in principle, patriotism, and the love I have for this country and its struggling citizens.

“7. The APC government, both under Buhari and now under Tinubu, has failed to address the core challenges confronting Nigerians: insecurity, hunger, youth unemployment, economic decay, and worsening corruption.

“8. Let me remind Nigerians that politics must never be about positions or power-sharing—it must be about service, integrity, and delivering real change.

“9. I cannot in good conscience return to a party whose ideology is now based on personal interest, betrayal of the masses, and governance by propaganda.

“10. As far as I am concerned, the APC has lost moral ground and historical relevance in rescuing Nigeria from its many woes.

“11. My political journey has never been about myself—it has always been about building a better future for all Nigerians, especially the youth and the downtrodden.

“12. That is why I am working closely with like-minded patriots across the country to form a broad-based political movement that will challenge the status quo in 2027.”
