The Chief Priest of Ishiogwugwu, Chief Gilbert Nathaniel Okoli, has stressed the importance of fear of God and up right in all religious practices. According to him, any religion, whether African traditional or foreign, that fails to promote these values cannot be considered a true religion.

Chief Okoli made this remark during his New Year greetings to Nigerians, which took place at the Ishiogwugwu shrine in Akwuoba, Ogbunka, Orumba South, Anambra State. The shrine is a revered deity with adherents from within and outside the Ogbunka ancient community.

In his message, the Chief Priest maintained that all religious practices must uphold the fear of God and uprighteousness. He noted that these values were an integral part of African traditional religion even before the advent of foreign religions.

Chief Okoli, who was baptized in the Catholic church, emphasized that his faith in Ishiogwugwu has brought numerous blessings, not only to himself but also to those seeking assistance from the deity. He revealed that Ishiogwugwu’s divine intervention has led to the release of wrongly imprisoned individuals and the restoration of seized properties.

The Chief Priest shared his personal testimony of transformation after embracing his ancestral roots. He narrated how Ishiogwugwu appeared to him while he was suffering in the Northern part of Nigeria, commanding him to return to Ogbunka and become his Chief Priest.

Chief Okoli’s parting words offered hope to those facing persecution, saying: “When faced with unjust suffering, turn to Ishiogwugwu for solace.” He prayed for sustained prosperity for those seeking good fortune and a transformation of heart for those who wish harm, that evil deeds may decrease significantly.
