The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has suspended its National Executive Council Chairman, Mr. Mamman Mike Osuman, a day after he publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration and revealed the group’s preference for a northern candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
The ACF’s National Executive Council convened a meeting on November 20, 2024, at their headquarters in Kaduna, where the controversial remarks were discussed.
In a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu (Wazirin Dutse), Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, and Alhaji Murtala Aliyu (Matawallen Gombe), the ACF Secretary General, the group clarified that Osuman’s statements, particularly his assertion that the North would support a northern candidate for the presidency in 2027, were made unilaterally and without consulting other ACF leaders or members.
“The statements were made by the NEC Chairman without consulting or discussing with other leaders and members of the ACF and thus, reflected Mr. Osuman’s personal opinion only,” the statement read.
The ACF expressed its disapproval of Osuman’s remarks, noting that they did not represent the official position of the forum. Consequently, the Board of Trustees and the NEC leadership of ACF have decided to suspend Osuman with immediate effect.
A committee has been set up to investigate the matter further.
