Gunmen struck in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Tuesday night, killing an unidentified man and abducting his companion.
The victims, traveling in a Nissan SUV with Lagos registration number SMK 439 HJ, were reportedly ambushed around 8 p.m.
This incident occurred on the same day Governor Chukwuma Soludo launched a total war against criminals in the state while offering amnesty to repentant individuals.
A viral video circulating online shows the body of the slain man inside the vehicle, while the driver was abducted by the attackers.
Members of the local vigilante group who responded to the scene said the assailants chased the victims from a neighboring community in an ash-colored Lexus Jeep.
The vigilantes also reported that the contents of the vehicle suggested the men were returning home for Christmas. They urged anyone familiar with the vehicle or the victims to come forward
