As electioneering campaigns gain momentum amongst various political parties in Anambra State, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Uzuegbuna Okagbue, has urged Ndi Anambra to ignore zoning arrangements but look out for a candidate with competence as they vote on November 8, 2025.
Uzuegbuna Okagbue, who was the former Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Willie Obiano made the call during a parley with the members of the Anambra State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Phd, at his country home, Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Okagbue maintained that what Anambra State needs was leader who knows and cares about the people. A team of leaders who would cater for the needs of the people. Someone who understands the yearnings and aspirations of his people not someone who must come from a particular senatorial zone based on rotational leadership.
“The point is that we want a functional leadership. A leadership that will speak and act on the challenges not the one that is leaning on extremely trivial senatorial zone.I live for the moment not zoning arrangements or whom to hand over.
“We don’t want a leadership founded on myopism. You cannot say it must be on zoning arrangements because even if that zone that must go do not have a capable person yet you still want the zone to produce a candidate even if the person is a clown.
“There is nowhere in the world people practice rotational leadership, it is not a constitutional provision but it is understandable when rotational slots or who becomes the leader is done within a political party.
“What people pursue in leadership is competence. We need leadership that will holistically develop Anambra State. We need leadership that recognises insecurity as our most pressing challenge and who also know how it tackle it and generate revenue from the Middle class and the rich not from the bottom and peasants.
“We don’t need a leader who will maltreatment and harass the poor masses with multiple taxes. Levying Barrow pushers , petty traders and Keke Riders to pay revenues.
“Paul Chukwuma and I will not just govern this state, the moment we win we shall congregate men and women into a formidable team to govern Anambra State. Wether or not things are right or wrong is dependent on the team.
“You need to have people who understands this things to govern this state. People who understands business, finance , governance. Leaders who are liberal in their thinking, who understands that this state requires a holistic approach of development as against development that are sectional to wherever you come from,” said Okagbue.
