Sule Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has given the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) a 10-day ultimatum to resolve its internal crisis in the interest of its members and Nigeria.

Lamido issued the ultimatum while addressing Jigawa State stakeholders of the party at his residence in Kano on Thursday.

The stakeholders included former local government chairmen, Jigawa State executives of the party, former commissioners and other ex-political appointees who paid him a solidarity visit.

He also called for the dissolution of the recent Ibadan elective convention of the party and the immediate formation of a national caretaker committee.

He expressed deep concern over the lingering crisis in the party, lamenting that long-time stakeholders like him had been sidelined by “new forces” within the PDP.

According to him, the current turmoil in the party is partly linked to efforts to undermine his political relevance.

Lamido insisted that his recent legal actions were not aimed at forcing himself into party leadership, but to protect the PDP legacy and defend his fundamental rights, which he said had been violated.

He stressed that, as things stand, Umar Damagum and Samuel Anyanwu remained the legitimate leaders of the party until their tenure expires on December 8, 2025.

The PDP founding father warned that allowing the party to continue without clear leadership structures could jeopardize the future of aspirants, serving office holders, and those planning to recontest positions.

“I am pushing for a caretaker committee. I am calling on Wike, Damagum, and others to forgive one another and support the formation of a unified caretaker body,” he said.

He,therefore, urged PDP leaders to convene a joint meeting to sincerely and honestly address the party’s challenges and restore it to its rightful place in national politics.

Lamido appealed to his supporters to remain calm and patient until December 8 to see how events would unfold in the party
