In a significant political development, Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, has announced plans to establish an inclusive interim government following the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
This decision came after extensive consultations with all major political parties, leading to a consensus on forming a transitional government.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman will now engage in discussions with President Mohammed Shahabuddin to finalize the arrangements and address the current political situation. In a statement quoted by the Dhaka Tribune, he said, “After holding a fruitful discussion with all political parties, we have decided to form an interim government. We will speak with President Mohammed Shahabuddin now to resolve the situation.”
The general called for an end to all violence and assured that the new government would ensure justice for those who died during the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement.
