The Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi has harped on the need for the provision of quality infrastructural delivery as a sine qua non for quality education.

Speaking at the One-Day training session on “Ensuring Quality at Project Sites Using Simple Tools for On-The-Spot Assessment” organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, NBRRI held at the ASUBEB Board Room, ASUBEB headquarters, Awka, Dr. Nwadinobi commended the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, whose education reform agenda has speedily facilitated the capacity of ASUBEB to continue strengthening systems, structures, and service delivery in basic education.

“We remain fully aligned with the Governor’s vision of excellence, accountability, and people-oriented governance”, she declared.

While appreciating UBEC and NBRRI for organising and facilitating the training, Dr. Nwadinobi noted that their technical support and commitment to quality assurance in public infrastructure cannot be overemphasized, describing the partnership as an invaluable one.

“As a Board, we understand that the quality of learning is greatly influenced by the quality of infrastructure provided, hence the need to empower our staff with practical tools and techniques for on-the-spot project supervision and assessment to ensure that what is planned is what is delivered without compromise”, she noted.

Earlier in an opening remark, the Deputy Director, Physical Planning Department, ASUBEB, ESV. Obinna Nwachukwu described the training as timely and strategic in the ongoing effort to entrench quality assurance in all facets of their infrastructural delivery.

While commending the collaborative efforts of UBEC and NBRRI for the training which he said would not only enhance their technical expertise but would strengthen the supervisory capacity of all staff in the Physical Planning and Project Implementation chain; ESV. Nwachukwu also stated that the training was designed to equip the staff with simple, efficient, and practical tools to assess projects on site, adding that the tools would enhance their capacity to detect, report, and act on construction irregularities in real time.

Some of the resource persons at the training programme were the Principal Research Officer, NBRRI, Engr. Maquin Hillman Luka; and the Technical Officer, NBRRI, Mr. Anthony Njoku among others.

The Board Secretary, Hon. Ebele Mgbemena, other Board Members and the staff of Physical Planning Department, ASUBEB, Awka were also on hand for the training.
