Four female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM), were reportedly abducted by gunmen on Tuesday night in Benue State.
According to witnesses, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at the university’s North Core campus, where the students were heading for a night study session.
The assailants allegedly intercepted six female students, seizing four of them while the other two escaped.
A student who wished to remain anonymous shared details of the incident, saying, “They (victims) were going to class to study when the gunmen appeared. They took four of our colleagues, but two escaped.”
Mrs. Rosemary Waku, the university’s Head of Information, stated that she had just returned to town and would provide more information after assessing the situation on campus.
In a statement, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack but reported a different number of victims.
“We received information that two students were kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Investigations are ongoing,” Anene said.
Authorities have launched an investigation to locate the missing students and bring the perpetrators to justice
