Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, as the country mourns the loss of one of its most enduring and influential leaders.

The body of the late president, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the United Kingdom at the age of 82, arrived earlier today at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina. It was received with full honours by a delegation led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda.

The solemn airport ceremony, draped in national pride and quiet reverence, saw the presence of members of the Federal Executive Council, top-ranking military officers, traditional rulers, and political dignitaries. Under tight security, Buhari’s remains were transferred into a state ambulance for the final journey to Daura.

Buhari, who first ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, was buried according to Islamic rites.

In Daura, the atmosphere was heavy with emotion as residents, mourners, and well-wishers gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects. Many described him as a symbol of discipline, integrity, and national service.

Across the nation, condolence messages and tributes have continued to pour in, lauding his firm stance against corruption, deep commitment to Nigeria’s unity, and a legacy of resilience in leadership.
