The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially removed the second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights from the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Originally set to take place in Libya at 8 p.m., this match followed Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg, which was held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
Controversy erupted in the lead-up to the return leg when Super Eagles players and officials endured a grueling 14-hour ordeal at a Libyan airport, ultimately forcing them to return home without playing.
In light of these events, CAF has announced an investigation into the situation. The Libyan Football Federation has claimed sabotage and is threatening legal action against Nigeria in response to the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, CAF has updated its schedule for Tuesday’s matches, notably excluding the Libya-Nigeria fixture from the list.
This development highlights ongoing tensions and the complexities involved in international football matches, particularly in regions with security concerns
