Chief Justice of Nigeria Kekere-Ekun

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has named Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo as the next Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

This was announced in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by the CJN’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Tobi Soniyi.

According to Soniyi, the appointment of Justice Adejumo, who once led the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, will officially begin on August 1, 2025.

He emphasized that Adejumo’s extensive background in judicial administration positions him well to contribute meaningfully to the NJI’s mission of advancing judicial competence and innovation.

Soniyi explained that the CJN’s decision came after the NJI’s Board of Governors—chaired by Justice Kekere-Ekun—endorsed Adejumo for the role.

Justice Adejumo will take over from Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi, whose four-year tenure as administrator concludes on July 31.
“The CJN expresses appreciation to the outgoing administrator for his tireless commitment and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the institute and the Nigerian judiciary as a whole,” the statement read.

Adejumo, recognized for his distinguished service in the judiciary, retired as President of the National Industrial Court in 2019.

The NJI is the foremost institution tasked with the ongoing training and professional development of judges and judicial staff nationwide.

It plays a critical role in enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency, consistency, and service quality through various capacity-building initiatives including workshops, seminars, and other academic programs designed to meet international standards.
