The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has been hit with double tragedy with the loss of his eldest son, Abdulwahab, in a fatal motor accident on Thursday.

This heartbreaking event follows the death of the governor’s mother, Maryam Namadi, who passed away on Wednesday after a short illness.

Sources indicate that Abdulwahab, who was driving his vehicle from Kafin Hausa to Dutse with friends, lost control of the car, which subsequently overturned.

Some of his friends are reportedly receiving medical attention at the Dutse General Hospital.

In a statement released to the press, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Gumel, confirmed the loss, saying, “With a heavy heart, Governor Umar Namadi announces the passing of his beloved son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi.”

Gumel further detailed, “The 24-year-old departed this world on Thursday, December 26, 2024, due to a ghastly motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road. The burial rites are currently underway in Kafin Hausa town in accordance with Islamic traditions.”

The governor’s spokesperson also noted that Abdulwahab is survived by his parents and several siblings.

“This tragic incident comes just a day after the governor mourned the passing of his mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi,” the statement concluded.

The loss has stunned residents of Jigawa State, with many expressing their sympathy and support to the grieving governor and his family
