The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained former Delta State Governor and former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Sources indicate that Okowa was taken into custody in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on allegations of misappropriating and embezzling billions of naira from Delta State funds during his time as governor.

While the EFCC has not yet issued an official statement confirming the arrest, Okowa’s tenure as governor spanned from May 2015 to May 2019.

Prior to his governorship, he represented Delta North in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 and also served as the Secretary to the Delta State Government.

The arrest highlights ongoing investigations into financial activities of public officials, particularly those accused of financial misconduct during their terms in office. Further details are anticipated from the EFCC in the coming days.
