The host community of Idu Industrial Area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and others have for some time now been cut off from water being supplied by FCT Water Board.
However, unconfirmed sources attributed the development to the ongoing road constructions in Life Camp junction, in the FCT
Due to the seriousness of the problem, the traditional ruler of Idu, Chief Muhammad Bawa Makama called on the authority in charge of pump water in the area to find a way of restoring the pump water before things get out of hand.
Chief Muhammad Bawa Makama, while appealing that there be an alternative, for the people within his domain to have assess to pipe born water, he said due to inability to assess drinkable water, they have resorted to the use of water from local wells, water from local boreholes and water from stream.
Although he admitted that they have been enjoying water uninterrupted, but was quick to add that due to importance of water in the life of humans, those in his domain have been suffering untold hardship, as a result of their inability to access drinkable water, even as he stated clearly that the use of waters whose cleanness is not guaranteed is dangerous to human health. He noted with concern that of not curtailed to barest minimum, by providing an alternative, the development may result to emergence of water-borne diseases.
However, when spoken to, the Head of Customers Care, Headquarters of Water Board, Mr Pam confirmed that due to some ongoing projects, some areas will not have water. He however added that from Saturday, restoration of water will begin.
