Factual Reportage

Glo 1, the international submarine cable solely owned by Globacom, Nigeria’s digital solutions provider, has reached eight years of continuous connectivity milestone.

As a result, the facility’s operations have not encountered any downtime since 2016, thus guaranteeing continuous connectivity for both corporate and individual clients who depend on it for their internet needs.

Recall that around March this year when most submarine cables in Nigeria and West Africa suffered cuts, resulting in extensive internet interruptions, Glo 1 continued to function normally throughout the period, ensuring that clients such as financial organizations, ISPs, and data users operating via Glo 1-powered networks continued their regular operations. Experts in the field believed that the damage did not affect Glo 1 International Submarine Cable because of its sturdy design and longevity.
In order to guarantee optimal utilization and improved service delivery, the Glo1 underwater fibre cable infrastructure has also been improved, the business said in a statement.

The quickest and most reliable direct connection to London is provided by Glo 1, with the lowest latency – the amount of time it takes for data to move across a network from one location to another. This ensures extremely dependable and quick internet access.

To guarantee a distinctive calling and surfing experience on the Glo network, the Glo 1 capacity boost aptly supplements the continuous technological extensions and enhancements of the Glo network architecture.

Globacom clarified that the Glo 1 facility, which caters to a wide range of clientele including manufacturers, oil and gas firms, the government, educational institutions, and medical facilities, offers consumers the most reliable solutions for their business needs. The company added that “among several other benefits for the African people, the cable facilitates teleconferencing, distance learning, disaster recovery, and telemedicine.”

The whole Glo 1 end-to-end infrastructure, comprising of access systems, national fiber-optic backbone, international gateways, international cable networks, and data centre services, is singularly owned by Globacom, which is able to provide Glo 1 clients with last mile and domestic long haul services due to its global presence and fiber optic networks.
