Tensions flared in Port Harcourt on Friday as rival factions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), aligned with Rivers State Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Chief Nyesom Wike, clashed at the party’s state secretariat.
The confrontation led to gunfire near the PDP office along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway. While some witnesses attributed the shots to security operatives stationed at the facility following the court-ordered removal of Aaron Chukwuemeka’s executive leadership, others claimed political thugs were responsible.
Sources revealed that supporters of the governor, previously forced out of the secretariat by security personnel after the legal ruling, attempted to reclaim the office on Friday morning.
However, they were met with resistance from another group reportedly loyal to the former governor, triggering a violent altercation that resulted in multiple gunshots.
