Govt should invest more in security, says Orogbu as she accounts 1 year of her sojourn at N/Assembly

The House of Assembly Member representing Awka North and South in Anambra State, Hon.Prof Oby Lillian Orogbu (Ada di ebube ndigbo)has on Saturday 26th of October, 2024 said security of lives and property remained number one priority of any Government.

She disclosed this at Emmanus House in Awka during 2024 NUJ Press conference.

Prof Orogbu called on Governor Soludo to invest more in security adding that investment would only take place in a secured environment.

 

“I commend the Governor for the roads he constructed but we have to be alive to ply the roads. Look at the recent killings in Nibo, Ifite, Nwafia,Onitsha and Anambra South.

“It is very much disturbing the type of killings going on in Anambra State”she pointed

Speaking on Gender Base Violent in Anambra State she said in National level, the “Committee of women Affairs and Committee of Gender are working assiduously to ensure they bring GBV to an end”

 

 

Orogbu thanked the stakeholders that considered her worthy to represent them in the parliament.

She restated the primary function of the legislature which she said was to make law for good governance and orderliness of the society.

“However, when this current democratic dispensation was mid-wifed,our pioneers thought it is wise to insert what they coined “Constituency and Zonal intervention projects” for members of the National Assembly

“Under the constituency projects ,a Rep is allocated N150 million in the statutory budget and N100 million as zonal intervention project bringing the sum total to N250 million every year “she revealed

Orogbu disclosed that her first one year and under one budget circle, that she was able to attract a number of impactful projects which she itemized as:A police Station to be constructed at ishiagu which according to her has already been awarded for construction.

“The construction of classroom blocks at Ezioka Community Secondary school, Reconstruction of classroom blocks at Agulu Awka Primary School and at Ikwodiaku Community Primary School.

“Construction of roads in Mgbakwu and Ogechukwu Street in Awka.Construction of proposed Mini Stadium in Achalla,Awka North ”

“Inspection of Health centers in Ezinato,Awka South and Urum in Awka North by experts”

“Installation of Solar Street lights in Awka South Local Government to lighten up some dark spots to enhance security ”

“Secured employment for over 10 young constituents and empowerment of 200 widows,distributions of palliatives to 34 wards of Awka North and South,given grants to petty traders whose stalls were demolished in Awka and helped small businesses owners recover from their losses”

Orogbu also revealed on the core legislative activities, that she sought and resurrected the bill for the establishment of Federal College of Agriculture Awba Ofemili which according to her started by her late predecessor adding it has now gone through second reading and passed to relevant committee for public hearing and many others.

She further disclosed that she laid three petitions, one against Nigeria Army in respect of a young constituent who was a serving soldier in Mumbai,Adamawa State but got missing since,a stock brokerage firm which defrauded over 90 Nigerians a total sum of 8 billion Naira.

Orogbu also said for more projects and other incentives for the constituency, a legislator must have been around for at least two tenures or more to be able to get the Chairmanship of a grade “A” committee or principal office revealing that the idea of stopping at single tenure would amount to a big loss to the members of Awka North and South.
