Factual Reportage

The House of Representatives has announced the death of Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

He passed away early Tuesday at the age of 39.

According to a statement by House Spokesperson Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., Adams was a dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and philanthropist. He chaired the House Committee on Sports and was serving his first term in the House.

“The dear departed lawmaker was a kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him. His dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was unwavering, and his contributions to the House will be deeply missed,” the statement reads.

The House of Representatives extended heartfelt condolences to Adams’ family, friends, and constituents, as well as to the people and Government of Kaduna State. “May God grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss, and may his soul find rest in the bosom of the Almighty,” it continued.

Adams had recently battled ill health. His background as a former football player and his role as general manager of Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars and Kada City earned him the chairmanship of the House Committee on Sports despite being a first-time representative.

Alloy Chukwuemeka, a former secretary of the NPFL Club Owners Association, also expressed his condolences, saying, “My good friend and one of our frontline members of the NPFL Club Owners Association, Chairman House Committee on Sports, Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams is Dead. May God console his family and friends and may his soul rest in peace.”
