The Emir of Rano in Kano State, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umaru, has imposed a strict ban on church activities within residential buildings across the Emirate.
This decision comes in response to numerous petitions from concerned residents about the unauthorized use of residential properties for religious gatherings.
Following these complaints, the Emir established a special investigative committee to examine the situation. The committee’s findings revealed that a church in Yadi Quarters, Rano town, was conducting services within a residential building without adhering to legal procedures.
Although Rano Emirate has 27 registered churches where Christians worship without interference, unauthorized religious gatherings in private homes sparked discontent among locals, leading to official complaints.
Based on the committee’s report, the Emir ordered an immediate halt to all church activities in residential buildings to maintain peace in the community.
Speaking on the matter, Alhaji Umar Isa Sarki, the committee secretary, stated that multiple petitions had been received regarding the legality of such services in private homes.
Efforts to get a response from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano Chapter, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
