The remains of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), arrived at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) as part of preparations for his state burial in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a state burial to honor the army chief, who passed away on November 5 following an illness.
Upon arrival at the airport’s military wing, senior military officers formed a guard of honor, paying their respects to the late COAS.
General Lagbaja, who was appointed COAS by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, will be remembered for his brief but impactful leadership in the Nigerian Army.
President Tinubu has appointed Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede as the acting COAS.
The official events in Abuja to honor General Lagbaja will include a service of songs at the Army Headquarters’ Garrison Parade Ground in Mogadishu Cantonment on Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm.
The funeral service is scheduled for Friday at the National Christian Centre from 10 am to 12:45 pm, followed by his interment at the National Military Cemetery between 2 pm and 6 pm.Murtala Muhammed International Airport
