A law firm, O.A.U. Enahoro & Associates, has written to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), requesting comprehensive information on monthly financial allocations to all Area Councils within the FCT. The request comes amid an ongoing strike by Area Council staff over non-payment of legitimate entitlements.
According to a letter made available to journalist in Abuja, the nation’s capital, the strike, which began in March 2025, has resulted in the shutdown of hospitals, clinics, and primary schools in the FCT, leaving the poor and vulnerable without access to essential services. The law firm cited the suffering of the people and the need for accountability in public offices.
The lawyers, acting on behalf of a client, Ogboi Anthony U. Enahoro, invoked the Freedom of Information Act 2011 to request the information. They expressed concern over the alleged withholding of Area Councils’ entitlements, while chairmen continue to allegedly oppress the people who voted them into office.
The law firm emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public offices, particularly with elections approaching. They urged the FCT Minister to ensure that the Area Councils receive their rightful allocations and that the funds are utilized effectively to provide essential services to the people.
