Liverpool are just one victory away from clinching the Premier League title after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late strike secured a 1-0 win over Leicester City, confirming the Foxes’ relegation.
Needing a win to prolong their top-flight status, Leicester held firm until the 76th minute at the King Power Stadium, when a goalmouth scramble led to the ball falling to Alexander-Arnold, who rifled it home.
Liverpool’s title could be confirmed as early as Wednesday, depending on the result between Arsenal and Crystal Palace. Should the Gunners take points, Arne Slot’s side can secure the trophy next Sunday when Tottenham visit Anfield.
Leicester’s fate was sealed after a dismal run of nine straight home defeats without scoring, a streak that stretches back to December. Their hopes were briefly ignited when Wilfred Ndidi struck the post, but the Foxes ultimately failed to break their scoring drought.

Liverpool came close to an early breakthrough when Mohamed Salah struck both posts inside two minutes. Despite dominating the league in the early months under Slot, the Merseyside club has seen their momentum dip slightly as the season nears its end.
Ndidi also made a crucial defensive play, clearing Ibrahima Konaté’s goal-bound header off the line in a first half where chances were scarce.
The tempo increased after the break, with Kostas Tsimikas missing a clear opportunity. Leicester had the ball in the net, but Patson Daka was penalised for a foul on goalkeeper Alisson before Conor Coady finished into an empty goal.
Returning from a five-week injury layoff, Alexander-Arnold was brought on with 20 minutes remaining and needed just five to make an impact—his 23rd and possibly final goal for Liverpool.
In a chaotic sequence, both Salah and Diogo Jota hit the woodwork from close range before Alexander-Arnold’s shot squeezed past Mads Hermansen. He tore off his shirt in celebration in front of the travelling fans.
Despite contract renewals for key players like Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked with a summer move to Real Madrid on a free transfer. When asked about his future by Sky Sports, he said:
“These days are always special, scoring goals, winning games, being close to winning titles – they are special moments that will live with me forever. And I’m glad to be part of it.”
Leicester’s return to the Premier League has ended in swift relegation, just a year after lifting the Championship title. Defender Conor Coady expressed the team’s disappointment:
“If we look at today, I thought we played and we nullified Liverpool quite well, they’re a world-class side. But if we look back at the season, it hasn’t been anywhere near good enough from a club point of view. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror.”
Leicester join Southampton in dropping back to the Championship, while Ipswich Town—15 points adrift with five games remaining—are expected to follow, continuing the trend of all three promoted teams going straight back down.
Elsewhere in the league, Arsenal comfortably defeated Ipswich 4-0, with Leandro Trossard netting twice. Manchester United’s struggles continued with a 1-0 home loss to Wolves, courtesy of a late Pablo Sarabia free kick.
