The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Owerri Operations Office, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance disaster management and emergency response coordination across Imo State.
The Head of Operations, Mr. Igwe Nnamdi Chukwudi, led a delegation from NEMA on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Owerri, where they were warmly received by the State Commandant, Commandant Basil Chinaka Igwebueze, and his management team.
The visit provided both agencies with an opportunity to deepen institutional cooperation, streamline communication, and explore strategies for effective coordination during disaster situations. In his remarks, Mr. Igwe emphasized the need for stronger synergy between NEMA and NSCDC, particularly in information sharing, joint operations, and public safety campaigns. He also proposed the appointment of a Desk Officer within the NSCDC to serve as a liaison for seamless communication with NEMA.

Highlighting the importance of capacity building, Mr. Igwe offered to facilitate free training sessions for NSCDC personnel on emergency response procedures, extrication techniques, and disaster management protocols. He further noted that collaboration with the Safe School Unit would help promote disaster awareness and preparedness among students in Imo State.
In his response, Commandant Basil Chinaka Igwebueze commended NEMA for its proactive leadership in disaster response and pledged NSCDC’s readiness to partner more closely in areas such as disaster prevention, risk reduction, and rapid emergency reporting. He identified pipeline vandalism as a major concern in the state and called for coordinated action to mitigate such incidents.

The Commandant expressed appreciation for NEMA’s continued support, describing the proposed training and liaison framework as valuable tools for improving the Corps’ preparedness and efficiency.
Deputy Commandant Emma Nwandu also lauded NEMA for its sustained collaboration and reiterated NSCDC’s commitment to building stronger institutional ties for effective service delivery.
The visit concluded with an exchange of pleasantries and a group photograph to commemorate the growing partnership between both agencies.
