The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of sunshine and haziness across the country from Sunday through Tuesday.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook issued on Saturday in Abuja, parts of Katsina, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa States will experience sunny conditions in a hazy atmosphere on Sunday morning. The rest of the northern region is also expected to remain sunny.

“Later in the afternoon or evening hours, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of southern Taraba,” the agency said.

For the central states, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds during the morning hours, followed by isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day over parts of Benue and Kogi.

The agency also projected a cloudy atmosphere for the southern region with possible morning thunderstorms and light rain in Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. It added that thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across much of the region as the day progresses.

On Monday, NiMet forecast sunny skies over the northern region in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms later in the day over parts of southern Kaduna and southern Taraba.

“For the central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the region during the morning hours. In the afternoon or evening hours, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of southern Benue, the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa.

“For the southern region, cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the southern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom,” the agency said.

It added that thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected later in the day over parts of Enugu, Ogun, Oyo, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

NiMet also predicted that on Tuesday, the northern region would remain mostly sunny, while the central region would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds.

It anticipated a cloudy atmosphere in the southern region with possible morning thunderstorms and light rains over Ogun, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate rains later in the day in parts of Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Lagos.

The agency cautioned motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and advised farmers to avoid applying fertilizers or pesticides immediately before the rains to prevent nutrient leaching.

“Ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.

“Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet. Visit our website ‎www.nimet.gov.ng,” it said
