Ahead of the proposed National Convention of the opposition Labour Party (LP) the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Wednesday stormed the national secretariat of the party, to demand for the sack of the embattled National Chairman, Julius Abure
Recall that the LP, together with the party’s House of Representatives caucus had rejected the proposed March 27 national convention of the party which it was gathered Abure will seek to continue in office
The NLC which stormed the LP secretariat in the early hours of Wednesday demanded the sacking of the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure.
The NLC leadership accused Abure of planning to hold a “secret” convention without the inputs of major stakeholders.
The workers accused Abure of planning to destroy the Labour Party.
The protesting workers were however repelled by the officers of the Nigeria Police who refused them entry into the party secretariat.
The leadership of LP had last weekend accused the NLC Predident, Comrade Joe Ajaero, of making desperate attempts to replace Abure.
The allegation was a response to an open letter written on Friday by the political wing of the NLC, the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission.
The LP leadership accusation followed a letter from the NLC political department which had rrejected the proposed Mar h 27 national convention of the party, which is billed to hold in Umuahia, Abia state
The NLC which described the planned national convention as illegal, demanded the immediate resignation of Abure as the party chairman, as well as the constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.
