As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Nigeria, the Anambra State Office of the Commission on Sunday, 12th October 2025, held a special Thanksgiving Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Awka.
The solemn Mass was attended by the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Anambra State Hon. Emmanuel Okechukwu Muoka, the State Director, Mr. Charles Ekwunife, management and staff of the Commission, friends, parishioners, and other well-wishers who joined in expressing gratitude to God for five decades of dedicated public service.

In his remarks after the Mass, Hon. Muoka appreciated God for sustaining the Commission since its establishment in 1975, describing the golden jubilee as a moment of thanksgiving, reflection, and rededication. He stated that over the past fifty years, the Public Complaints Commission has remained the foremost institution for administrative justice in Nigeria, providing a platform for citizens to seek redress against unfair treatment, abuse of office, and other forms of maladministration.

The Honourable Commissioner explained that the Thanksgiving Mass was not only a spiritual exercise but also an opportunity to sensitize parishioners and create greater public awareness about the activities, mandate, and services of the Commission in Anambra State. He emphasized that the PCC remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in governance by addressing complaints from members of the public against government agencies, officials, and private organizations performing public functions.

Hon. Muoka further called on parishioners and residents of Anambra State to always feel free to approach the Commission with genuine complaints, assuring them that PCC operates independently and offers its services free of charge. He noted that the Commission’s presence in all the 36 states and the FCT enables it to respond effectively to issues of administrative injustice at the grassroots level.

Also speaking, the State Director of the Commission, Mr. Charles Ekwunife, expressed joy that the Commission has continued to live up to its constitutional responsibility of promoting social justice and protecting citizens’ rights. He reiterated that the Anambra State Office will continue to intensify its public enlightenment efforts to ensure that more people are aware of the PCC’s role in promoting fairness and good governance.

Prayers were offered during the Mass for the continued growth of the Commission, the welfare of its staff, and for peace and progress in Nigeria.
The event also afforded staff of the Commission the opportunity to reflect on the Commission’s remarkable journey since inception and to renew their commitment to efficient service delivery in line with its vision of being a credible institution for administrative justice in Nigeria.
The Thanksgiving Mass is one of several activities lined up by the Commission in Anambra State to commemorate its Golden Jubilee Celebration.
