The Police Operatives in Asaba and Ibusa Communities in Delta State have mounted serious manhunt for youths in the areas who allegedly were involved in the shooting of the spokesman of the Diokpa Umuidi Villa Of Ibusa Community, Chief Ernest Nwanne over land dispute in the areas.
SP Bright Edafe, the Police Spokesman in Delta State who confirmed the hunt for the youths to Journalists on Wednesday in Asaba, said however that no arrest has been made as the Suspects are currently on the run but assured that the police will do everything possible to bring them to arrest anywhere they run to.
Speaking to Journalists, the victim, Chief Ernest Nwanne said that those allegedly involved in the shooting, some of them his cousins, stormed his abode in a black Toyota Camry and called him out , a situation they allegedly rained bullets on him unfortunately, he fell down as they thought he was dead when helpers moved in for his rescue.
Currently being treated at the Federal Medical Center, Asaba (FMC, Asaba) Chief Ernest Nwanne further said that the security agencies in Asaba and Ibusa Communities have Commenced investigation into the attempt on his life adding that he did nothing to the Suspects other than to oppose to their allegedly stealing manners, particularly on lands matters, and called on the state and federal governments to ensure that such alleged criminals are severely dealt with through the laws.
Meanwhile, the vice Chairman of Ogwashi Uku vigilante Group ( OVG) Mr Udene Charles has narrowly escaped death after he was shot by Suspected hoodlum in the area on Tuesday night. Udene Charles who Spoke to Journalists in the area said that he was fortunate on the fateful Tuesday when the hoodlums allegedly rained bullets on him while driving to his house adding that he was very lucky that the bullets spray merely damaged his car as the matter was already with the Police for investigation. SP Bright Edafe, the Police Spokesman in Delta State confirmed the incident disclosing that investigation was ongoing in the area..
In another development, Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, Warri Division, on Wednesday disrupted the Protesting Commercial Tricycle and vehicle drivers over sale of Outrageous haulage tickets in the area. The Police Operatives who were said to have arrived at the scene, however whisked away the leader of the Protesters, Mr Innocent Victor for alleged breach of public peace.
The Protesters had explained that they spend about N12,000 in purchasing permit tickets in about six local government areas daily adding that touts were being used by those who claimed to be working for government to collect N1,000 every day from each of them
But the state government through the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza dispelled as untrue adding that the state government has no hand in fraudulent charges.
