Angry students on Friday, staged major protest at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, following the alleged killing of a 400-level student by local vigilantes in Dutsin-Ma town.
The demonstration turned disruptive as students blocked the Dutsin-Ma–Katsina highway, setting tires ablaze and halting traffic.
The victim, identified as Sa’id Abdulkadir, was a final-year student in the Faculty of Agriculture. Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the circumstances of his death.
Some sources claim Abdulkadir was suspected of being a bandit informant, while others suggest he was mistakenly shot by security personnel while riding a commercial motorcycle.
According to eyewitness accounts, security operatives attempted to stop the motorcycle carrying Abdulkadir and another passenger. When they failed to comply, the operatives allegedly opened fire, resulting in Abdulkadir’s death. The motorcycle rider sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, outraged students took to the streets, calling for accountability and justice for their fallen classmate.
Security forces, including police officers and soldiers, were dispatched to disperse the protesters and restore order on the highway.
