Rector gives scholarships to two students during crafts exhibition

*** Gifts money during hospital visit, Rector's Cup final

Two Students of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State has attracted Scholarships from Dr Chioma Awuzie Foundation for presenting a beautiful Portrait of the Substantive Rector as their personal gifts to her during a Crafts Exhibition of the institution.

The Rector who was excited at the gesture of the ND students to paint her drawing without minding the cost of material or expecting anything in return decided to encourage the students with a bigger surprise by granting them scholarships throughout their studies under her personal foundation .

Moreover, various Schools and Departments like the hospitality, bakery, nig, Electric Electronics Engineering, Fine and Applied Arts, enthusiastically displayed their products, inventions, innovations, and services they were willing to offer to both the polytechnic community and for patronage from the general public.

Dr Chioma Awuzie later bought some of the products and gifted some of the Council members, visitors, retirees, management and staff in the mood of the 100 days in office celebration.

She also promised to assist by providing financial interventions where necessary for both the newly revived departments and other existing ones to ensure that nothing falls short of their vision to be viable ventures that can generate revenue for the polytechnic.

The event was well attended by members of the institution’s governing council, management, staff, and students, as well as representatives from local businesses and organizations.

Moreso, as part of the activities to mark her 100 days in office, the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Rector Dr Mrs Chioma Awuzie visited Chinonso Hospital and Maternity Oko where she sympathized with some patients, gifting them both cash and food items to assist in payment of hospital bills and drugs.

According to Awuzie, I am a humanitarian, philanthropist and I have a foundation ‘Dr Chioma Awuzie Foundation’ although this hospital visitation is done under the auspices of the Federal Polytechnic Oko management as one of the activities to mark my 100 days in office.

“The polytechnic management found it worthy for us to engage in some humanitarian outreaches.

‘We started yesterday by sponsoring a medical outreach for the host community at Oko Civic Center. Today we are here at Chukwunonso hospital to visit the sick, mothers who just gave birth and their newborn babies.

“Addressing the patients and others on admission in the hospital, Dr Awuzie told them that falling sick is a natural phenomena but prayed God for their speedy recovery and good health.

Some of the beneficiaries ,Chigozie Okoli, Okafor Amarachi and the a Medical Doctor in the hospital expressed their profound gratitude eulogizing the rector for having a heart with milk of human kindness and for remembering those in the hospital.

The Acting Registrar, Mr Nwagwu Dominic sang the praises of the Substantive Rector describing her as a good person and God-sent who is willing to make things work.” Good things follow good persons.She is a philanthropist who is willing to identify with the plights of others.She visited hospital to assist in payment of their hospital bills. She also gave scholarships to two ND students”.

The highpoint of the day was the kick off of the Rector’s Unity Cup final football match by Dr. Chioma Awuzie herself to the cheering spectators.

The final football match was played between the School of Information and Environmental and Design Technology. School of Environmental Design Technology defeated their opponent by 3 goals to 1.

Presenting the cash gifts, the Rector expressed her gratitude to the institution’s community for their support and cooperation. She reiterated her commitment to providing quality education, promoting community service, and fostering peace , unity and excellence.

According to the Polytechnic Coach, Mr Uche Okafor, the Rector’s Unity Cup commenced on May 14,2025 with a novelty football match between the Academic and Non Academic Staff where the Academic Staff won by 2 – 0.

“The cash prizes of #200,000 to the School of Environmental Science Technology as cup winners, while the 1st runner up School of Information and 2nd runner up, School of Science Lab Technology smiled home with #100,000 and #50,000 respectively.

“Other cash recipients include the highest Goal scorer and the first to score two goals in the tournament, Ejimofor Emmanuel Department of financial Studies department while the Best Goal keeper is Dakpigi Samuel of School of Environmental Design and Technology,” said Okafor.

Mr Uche Okafor commended the Substantive Rector, Dr Chioma Awuzie for revitalizing sports in the institution which is a major unifying factor for both management, staff, students with host community saying that sporting activities helps in improving the mental and body health of both participants and spectators.
