Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have commenced the grilling of forrmer Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari,  in Abuja.

Kyari, who had previously been placed on the agency’s watchlist, arrived at EFCC headquarters around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, DAILY TRUST reported.

According to insiders at the commission, the former NNPCL boss is expected to clarify issues concerning monies allocated for the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries during his tenure.

“Yes, he’s in our office. He will be ushered into where he will face interrogation by the crack detectives of the commission,” a senior official of the EFCC confirmed.

It will be recalled that a Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier ordered a freeze on all bank accounts linked to Kyari at the request of the anti-graft agency
