In a major development, the Nigeria’s Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Amupitan takes over from Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who led the electoral body for a decade.
Thd upper legislative chamber gave its approval during plenary, following several hours of screening by the lawmakers.
During his presentation, Amupitan — a distinguished lawyer from Kogi State and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos, pledged to collaborate with relevant institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission to enhance the nation’s electoral system
