A tragic collision on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge has resulted in the death of one person and left eight others critically injured.

The accident, which occurred near the Ilaje area, involved two Mazda commercial buses with registration numbers LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH.

Reports indicate that the buses were engaged in a high-speed chase when they collided head-on, causing significant damage.

Eyewitnesses noted that reckless driving was a contributing factor, as both vehicles had been speeding from the Adeniji Adele axis towards Iyana-Oworonsoki prior to the crash.

Emergency services from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly responded to the scene, rescuing the eight injured passengers who suffered serious fractures.

They were transported to Gbagada General Hospital by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical attention.

Police officers from the Bariga and Alonge stations secured the area to facilitate rescue operations and manage traffic.

LASTMA expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated its commitment to road safety. The agency urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies.

Earlier in the day, another accident occurred on the same bridge involving a Honda CRV (AKD 743 HV), which overturned due to excessive speeding. Fortunately, there were no casualties in that incident.

LASTMA responded promptly, clearing the wreckage and minimizing traffic disruption.
