United States’ President, Donald Trump, has placed Nigeria on a list of “countries of particular concern,” citing what he called a growing threat to Christians in the country.

Trump made the declaration on Friday through his Truth Social account, alleging that thousands of Christians have been killed by “radical Islamists” involved in what he described as “mass slaughter.”

According to him, around 3,100 Christians have lost their lives in Nigeria in recent times.

He said he had instructed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to investigate the situation and present their findings to him.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries,” Trump wrote.

“We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world,” he added.

As of the time of reporting, the Nigerian government had not issued a response to Trump’s statement.
