Amid mounting concerns over the dismal performance of candidates in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced a thorough investigation into possible technical issues that may have affected the results.

JAMB is working in collaboration with Vice Chancellors, IT professionals, and other academic experts to uncover any irregularities and take corrective steps where necessary. This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s Public Communication Advisor.

According to PlatinumPost, more than 1.5 million of the 1.9 million candidates who took the exam scored below 200 out of a possible 400, sparking significant criticism from candidates, parents, and other stakeholders.

In a statement titled “Re: Public Complaint Regarding the Release of the 2025 UTME,” JAMB confirmed that it had accelerated its routine post-exam review process—an in-depth analysis that usually takes place several months after the UTME.

The board explained that the review would encompass all three critical phases: registration, the conduct of the examination, and the release of results. Special attention, it noted, is being given to complaints emerging from certain states, which it is now investigating closely.

“To assist in this process, we have engaged several experts, including members of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners (who are heads of tertiary institutions), the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and Vice Chancellors from various institutions.

“If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves,” he assured
