The late Fabian Adibe

The Nigerian film industry has lost one of its respected veterans as Fabian Adibe passed away at the age of 85.

Adibe, who earned recognition for his memorable role in the classic film adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday at about 2:30 a.m.

While full details surrounding his passing are still unclear, the sad news was first made public by celebrity journalist Seun Oloketuyi, who announced it on Instagram.

He wrote: “Things Fall Apart actor, Fabian Adebe, is dead. Died 2 am this morning.”

Adibe, who belonged to the pioneering generation of Nollywood, was among those who laid the foundation for the Nigerian movie industry.

In the 1970s, he was part of the group of young Igbo men who formed the Odunke Artists, a movement that shaped the cultural and artistic landscape of the time.

His death marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy in film and theatre that influenced generations of actors.
