The Rivers State Government has stated that it will not comply with the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the State House of Assembly to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The ultimatum, issued on Monday by the Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, followed a Supreme Court ruling reinstating the lawmakers.
In response, the government, in a letter dated March 5, 2025, and addressed to the Speaker, said it had not received any official communication regarding the directive.
The letter reads in part:
“As of the close of work on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the office of the governor, the deputy governor, nor the office of the Accountant-General of the state has received it.”
The government further stated that it is in consultation with its legal team, which is still awaiting a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment. It assured the people of Rivers State that once Governor Siminalayi Fubara receives the judgment, he will act in the best interest of the state.
