Lieutenant Colonel Anele Onyinyechi Appolonia has been appointed the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, a trailblazing move that reflects the military’s evolving stance on gender inclusion.
A seasoned officer from Direct Regular Course 15 and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lt Col Anele will assume office on April 22, 2025.
She succeeds Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.
Before her new role, Lt Col Anele served in key strategic positions, including as Public Relations Officer to the Chief of Army Staff and most recently at the Department of Civil-Military Relations at Defence Headquarters.
Her appointment is more than a personal achievement. It is a milestone for the Nigerian Army, signaling a bold shift towards inclusive leadership and recognising the growing impact of women in national defense
