The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge brought against him before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court in Abuja.

The charges against Emefiele relate to his approval of the printing of N684.5 million at the rate of N18.96 billion and his alleged disobedience of the law during the implementation of the naira swap policy of the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Additionally, the EFCC accused him of unlawfully approving the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

With this arraignment, Emefiele now faces three separate charges, indicating the seriousness of the allegations against him. The legal proceedings will shed light on the extent of his involvement in these alleged corrupt activities and their impact on the public.
