A new wave of protests has erupted in Kano amidst a fierce contest for the emirate throne.

The struggle for the throne involves Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano.

Around 4:00 PM on Sunday, youth protesters took to the streets, calling for the reinstatement of Ado Bayero. Some protesters lit bonfires on major roads while chanting anti-government slogans.

Police were present at the scene, but officers did not attempt to disperse the demonstrators.

The protests began after a special prayer session, with participants holding placards that read: “Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court Order,” “Court Brought You,” “You Must Obey the Court,” “Aminu Is Still Our Emir,” and “We Are Against Injustice.”

Earlier on Sunday, similar protests were reported in Gaya, one of the dissolved emirates.
