Musliu Akinsaya, widely known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) by the Southwest Zone of the union.
The election was held during the union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference at the Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State. Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states took part in the selection process.
The acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore, who monitored the conference, emphasized that the union’s constitution allows the zone with the presidency turn to elect a candidate and present them to the National Secretariat. Representing him, Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, confirmed that the Southwest zone adhered to the union’s guidelines in electing MC Oluomo as president.
The conference also saw Tajudeen Agbede elected as Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was chosen as a trustee for the zone.
In his inaugural speech, Oluomo called for peace and unity within the union, expressing his dedication to these values. “I have forgiven everyone that offended me, and I hope those I offended will also forgive me. This is our union, and we must protect it. We will not allow anyone to harm our means of livelihood,” he said.
