The founder of Nnewi Young Elders Forum and the outgoing leader of the forum ,Hon Chinedu Okonkwo(Onyeije Nnewi)has stated that the forum was strategically organized and had a special mandate to unite the people of Nnewi, maintain peace and empower youths in the community.
Hon Okonkwo made the statement during the official handover of the mantle of leadership to newly elected leader of the Forum at the Igwe Orizu’s palace.
He said that the Forum was registered and according to him that it was formed as an independent ,body free from political interference and influence.
“The Forum started as a result of our desire for oneness in our community and to know ourselves, ” he added
Earlier in his presentation, Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Nnewi North Local Government Area,Anambra State,Hon Tony Muodelo(Classic) said Nnewi community need to have gone beyond their current status.
He pointed out for any community to grow that peace and team spirit must be eminent.
” We are one indivisible entity, all forms of dichotomy must be removed ” he added
Hon Muodelo stated that the people had one common name which was Nnewi (Anyi bu ndi Nnewi).He continued to advise the Young Elders Forum not to divide themselves but come together to foster unity so that they could secure Nnewi.
Newly elected leader of the Forum ,Mr Celestine Nnajiofor said that for one to be a leader of the Forum, the person must be thoroughly examined, which they Forum did and he was chosen.
He appreciated the Forum for finding him worthy to be their leader.
Mr Nnajiofor promised to discharge his duties diligently.
“I am going to make sure that peace and unity reign in our community,I will bring development and empower our youths” he said
One of Stakeholders who spoke during meeting, Amb.Paul Muoneke the former president Nnewi Youth Forum said that the Forum was established to fight against godfatherism.
He noted that it was formed for peaceful coexistence among Nnewi indigenes.
Amb Muoneke described the election as one that reflected the people’s choice.
” The election followed the principles of democracy ” he noted
He advised the elected officials to maintain the aims and Objectives of the Forum.
He further advised them to work diligently and selflessly to deliver their duties.
Highlights of event included presentation of certificates to the elected officials,prayers.
