‘Seven Doors’, a historical drama series by Femi Adebayo, emerged as one of the standout winners at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), securing three major accolades that highlighted its prominence in Nollywood.
Femi Adebayo was named Best Lead Actor for his portrayal of Adedunjoye, the king in the series. Chioma Chukwuka took home the award for Best Lead Actress for her role as Amaka, Adedunjoye’s wife. Additionally, the series claimed the award for Best Music/Score.
The 11th edition of the AMVCA took place on Saturday at the Eko Hotels in Lagos, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The event is a distinguished celebration of excellence in African film and television, drawing the continent’s brightest stars and industry professionals.
Veteran actors Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards during the ceremony. Director Kayode Kasum received the Trailblazer Award for his innovative and genre-defying contributions to the industry.
Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels for MultiChoice West Africa, addressed the significance of AMVCA’s long-standing commitment to Nollywood. She highlighted the evolving nature of the awards and its focus on nurturing the next generation of artistes.
“We are committed to capacity building, evolving the industry, producing and distributing the best local content available on the continent,” Tejumola shared. “The AMVCA continues to evolve every single year, and this edition is special as it spotlights younger artistes who will take the industry forward in the next 10 years.”
Tejumola also emphasized that creating relatable content is key to keeping audiences engaged. Over the past 11 years, AMVCA has invested over nine billion Naira into the careers of young artistes. Through the MultiChoice Talent Factory, young filmmakers also benefit from a one-year development programme to refine their skills.
