Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that he is responsible for the pregnancy of former Big Brother Naija star, Nengi Rebecca Hampson.
Both Governor Diri and Nengi have debunked the claims, labeling them as baseless and unfounded.
Reacting to the rumors, Governor Diri dismissed them as a politically motivated smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He expressed shock at the timing of the allegations, which coincided with the celebration of his administration’s 5th anniversary.
“This is nothing but a calculated attempt by political opponents to distract and discredit my achievements,” the governor stated.
The controversy has sparked widespread reactions, with many urging caution in the spread of unverified information on social media.
Meanwhile, Nengi has also called for an end to the false narratives, emphasizing her commitment to focusing on her career and personal growth.
His Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, emphasizing that Nengi has no personal relationship with the governor.
“This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms,” Oredipe stated.
He further criticized those spreading falsehoods, stating that while the state government was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa, detractors were busy fabricating lies against the governor.
Describing Governor Diri as a man of integrity, Oredipe reaffirmed that the allegations held no factual basis and were simply an attempt to undermine the administration’s achievements.
