Former Serbia commander, Ratko Mladic dies in Netherlands prison
Former Bosnian Serb military commander Ratko Mladic, who was convicted of genocide and sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the 1992-1995 Bosnian War, has died, according to reports from Serbia.
Mladic, 84, died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, while serving his sentence at a United Nations detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands. Serbian broadcaster RTS and other local media reported that he died after suffering several strokes.
He was one of the most senior Bosnian Serb military figures during the war and commanded the Army of Republika Srpska. He was arrested in Serbia in May 2011 after spending 16 years as a fugitive before being transferred to the UN tribunal in The Hague.
Mladic was convicted in 2017 of genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war. The charges related to atrocities committed during the Bosnian conflict, including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo. His life sentence was upheld on appeal in 2021.

The Srebrenica massacre remains one of the worst atrocities committed in Europe since World War II, with more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys killed after Bosnian Serb forces captured the UN-declared safe area in July 1995.
Mladic’s health had deteriorated significantly in recent years. His lawyers had sought his release on humanitarian grounds, arguing that he was suffering from serious and irreversible health problems. A UN court rejected a request for his release earlier this year.
The UN’s International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals said Mladic’s convictions included genocide in Srebrenica, as well as persecution, extermination, murder, deportation, forcible transfer, terror, unlawful attacks against civilians and hostage-taking.
His death brings to an end the life of one of the most prominent figures convicted by international courts for crimes committed during the violent breakup of Yugoslavia.

2027: Why Tinubu must sack his incompetent aides – Ndume
Borno South senator and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Ndume, has urged president Bola Tinubu to weed the presidency of his Incompetent sides before they cause more harm to him
Ndume, who gave the advice during an Arise News interview late Wednesday, stated that President Bola Tinubu has “kakistrocrats” who dominate his presidency. He urged the president to weed out the kakistrocrats before they do more damage to him.
The ranking former senate Majority Leader cited the recent fake agency scandal that rocked the administration as proof of oversight lapses, noting that “incompetent” officials in the Tinubu administration were responsible for some of the controversies and embarrassments confronting the government.
“Already, I’ve been vindicated on that, as to saying that my concern is that the president has so many kakistrocrats that dominate the presidency.
And I still maintain that unless he does something about it, they will continue to mess him up
“You can imagine, right now, it’s now a known thing in Nigeria; we had a fake agency that operated and even had an office, and they don’t know, they don’t know,” Ndume said.
Ndume however, scored the President high, over the recent expansion of army divisions, even as he commending him for ordering the arrest of Nwabueze George over the alleged operation of a fake government agency on the premises of the SGF’s office
“I give the president credit. That is why I insist that if he had capable hands, all this mess and embarrassment wouldn’t be happening.” He noted

The criticism led to reports on Monday that president Tinubu’ has withdrawn the last day and called for it’s rejig to include some other prominent members of the APC, who were mit carried along
But the party on Tuesday denied reports that it has withdrawn the presidential election campaign list, describing it as rumours
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, made this rebuttal on Tuesday when he appeared on a TVC morning program
