Former Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, President Ibrahim Gusau has promised to leverage his positions within African and global football structures to advance the interests of Nigeria, West Africa and the wider African football community.
Gusau made the commitment in Abuja last Thursday while announcing his resignation from his key positions in Nigerian football administration.
The former NFF president was recently appointed to the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee, placing him among officials involved in discussions and decisions concerning the development and future of men’s club football at the global level.
Gusau described the appointment as both an honour and a responsibility, stressing that he would work to justify the confidence placed in him by FIFA leadership.
As President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, Gusau said his extensive experience in Nigerian and West African football would allow him to bring an African perspective to the committee’s deliberations, particularly on issues surrounding the growth and sustainability of the club game.
Although he has stepped down from his major roles in Nigerian football administration, Gusau remains WAFU Zone B President. He noted that his experience in the region has given him a broader understanding of the challenges facing football development across Africa.
His appointment comes at a time when African football is seeking greater representation in global football decision-making. The increasing participation of African clubs in international competitions has also intensified discussions around commercial opportunities, player development, infrastructure and the financial sustainability of professional football.
Gusau stressed that African representatives on international football bodies must ensure that the continent’s interests are properly reflected in decisions affecting the global game.
He also expressed his willingness to work with other members of the FIFA committee to develop policies and initiatives that can strengthen football economies, particularly in countries where the professional club game is still developing.
Nigeria has maintained a strong presence within FIFA’s decision-making structures through several appointments. Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick is Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Men’s National Team Competitions Committee, while NFF Executive Committee member Aisha Falode serves on the FIFA Media and Communications Committee.
Against this backdrop, Gusau’s appointment represents not only a personal milestone but also another opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen its influence in African and international football administration.

Nigeria’s U20 girls, Falconets, weekend defeated their Poland counterparts, 1-0 in a friendly match played at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, as part of the team’s final preparations for this year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Mary Mamudu scored the only goal of the match in added time of first half, as the charges of Coach Moses Aduku gained much-needed winning mentality and morale ahead of their first match of the competition against Spain on Monday, 7th September.
The two-time World Cup runners-up will play their second and final friendly game against the Republic of Korea at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium on Tuesday, 1st September.
After playing Spain on 7th September, the Falconets will tackle China on 10th September, and then take on New Caledonia on 13th September.

Toby Collyer has left Manchester United to join West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder spent part of last season on loan with West Brom and now becomes their latest signing of this summer.
There were a few reasons why I was so keen to return. The size of the club is one of them. I also really enjoyed my time here on loan in the first half of last season. Another reason was the manager, James Morrison. He was really keen to have me back, and that’s all you want in football – a manager who wants you and wants to see you do well. As I say, I really enjoyed every second of my loan spell here last season, even though I didn’t reach the levels that I wanted to reach. That’s another reason why I wanted to come back here, to show everyone what I’m about and prove to everyone how much of a great player I am.I ended up following most of the Albion games in the second part of last season, to be honest. I remember coming back with Hull and getting the runaround. Being out on loan makes you grow up. Even though I didn’t have the best loan spells last season, I felt like I grew up and became much more of a man. I felt as though now was the right time to move on and really kick on with my career, and I’m glad that I’ll get the chance to do that here.
