To this end, hundreds of supporters of the party are on a daily basis defecting to other political parties over what many of them described as betrayal by the government of the State.

According to the checks, the complain of the people against the leaders of the State, most especially the governor, was that he had completely failed in all ramifications, particularly in the area of security, which has been the bane of confession.

The governor also, among what provoked people of state was the fact that he surrendered all the affairs of the State in the hands of strangers at the expense of the indigenes, most especially the finance sector, which obviously, and under normal condition, is supposed to be manned by indigenes of the State.

In addition to that, continued the checks, the governor has also been accused of non-challant attitude toward the welfare of the people, as well as involving them in the running of the affairs of the State.

The checks further revealed that the governor, was also accused of disregarding the State he governs as even if he is within the country, always prefer to stay in other people’s State than his own, which is one of the most disheartening thing to thr entire people of the State.

Additionally, revealed the checks, and another thing that negatively bother the people as far as the leadership of Dauda Lawan is concerned, is his vehement refusal to sympathise with people during any calamity that befalls.them, such as bandits attack on villages which sometimes result in death of people and destruction of their belonging.

Those who spoke with our correspondent in this regard, expressed their unhappiness over the situation, describing it as unbearable, and unaccepted henceforth by the governed.

Alhaji Lawali Dan Zuga, a prominent politician and business tycoon in the State, told our reporter that they did not expect what they are witnessing in the present administration of the State.

According to him, it was because of the high expectation that the entire state went for Dauda during the 2023 general elections.” But to our dismay, apart from increasing economic hardship and insecurity, there is nothing tangible, or to write home about”, he stated.

Speaking further, Lawali explained that the people of the State are fed up with the type of Dauda’s leadership, and that whatever he does now, he cannot convince them to vote for him in the forthcoming election, adding that his administration has not brought anything good to the State in terms of development.

” He knew right from day one what we need, and that is the promise he made which he failed to fulfill, in other word, security, which is the only thing we need in this State”.

Also contributing, Malan Da Ige Sani, a resident of Hilin Gunza, stated that the entire State is disappointed in Dauda.” This man when he came here, he knew nobody, and nobody knew him because he was not brought up here, only very few knew him, but despite all that, we unanimously went for him leaving the one we have been together with, since ages, thinking that we will get change, but unfortunately, all our hopes of getting succor dashed”.

Account for Nigeria’s N166.79trn debt before asking World Bank for $1.5bn loan, Atiku charges Tinubu

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, charged President Bola Tinubu to account for N166.79 trillion debt before borrowing $1.5 billion from the World Bank.

Atiku accused Tinubu of running a government that demands endless sacrifices from Nigerians while reaching endlessly for fresh loans.

In a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communications of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said: “With public debt at N166.79 trillion, Tinubu is now seeking another $1.5 billion from the World Bank. The President must first account for the money already borrowed.”

Atiku said Tinubu’s record is an indictment of his economic stewardship, stressing that families are struggling to afford food, fuel and electricity, yet debt continues to climb.

“If Nigeria’s public debt were divided among everyone, each person’s share would be N716,822 today. Three years ago, it was N383,442. That is an 87 per cent increase.

“Tinubu has made today difficult and tomorrow more uncertain. He cannot keep loading debt onto the country and expect Nigerians to applaud programme titles. What has this government built? Who has benefited? Why should Nigerians trust him with another term in office?”

Atiku said the proposed $500 million facilities for climate resilience, social protection and early childhood development should address real needs.

He added: “But worthy programme names cannot stand in for a public account of how previous loans were spent or a clear plan for delivering measurable results.

“Before these loans are concluded, the government must publish the projects to be funded, the communities and citizens expected to benefit, the targets for each programme, the terms of borrowing and disbursement, and a timetable Nigerians can use to track delivery.

“Climate resilience must mean identifiable land restored, irrigation delivered and communities protected from flooding. Social protection must identify who receives support and when. Early childhood development must produce measurable gains in nutrition, healthcare and learning.”

Atiku also challenged the government to reconcile its appetite for borrowing with its repeated claims of higher revenue and savings from petrol subsidy removal.

“If more money is coming in, why does the debt keep climbing? If Nigerians have sacrificed so much, where are the results? A government cannot keep announcing savings, signing loans and asking the same struggling families to wait for relief,” the ex-Vice President said.
